Essential information for our customers

General

What are e-gift cards?

e-gift cards are electronic gift cards that are sent to you by email. They can be used for shopping online at www.silver-guard.co.uk.

Where can I use my e-gift card?

You can use your e-gift card to purchase items online (applied in the Payment Details section during checkout).

What is the difference between a face covering and a face mask?

Face coverings are not classed as PPE. They are not manufactured to a recognised standard and not CE marked. Face coverings including face masks and snoods are designed to limit the spread of infection, such as Human Coronavirus. Our face coverings are not intended as medical grade face masks.

Is there an expiry period for my e-gift card?

e-gift cards are valid for 12 months from the day of purchase.

Do your e-gift cards contain a single use voucher code?

Yes, our e-gift cards contain a single use voucher code. This means the voucher code can only be redeemed once.

If you wish to have separate vouchers of lower monetary values then please enter multiples of the quantity you require. For example, you wish to have four separate vouchers with a value of £10 each, then select the £10 voucher denomination and then put in four in the quantity box. This is 4 x 10.  This will create four £10 vouchers for you in one order worth a total of £40. These can then be redeemed on separate purchases.

What are the e-gift card terms and conditions?

SilverGuard e-gift cards can be used or redeemed online in the UK, www.silver-guard.co.uk, only.

e-gift cards are available in the following denominations: £10, £25, £50 and £100 – with a minimum value of £10 and a maximum value of £100, as applicable.

e-gift cards are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase, after such time the e-gift card shall expire.

e-gift cards contain a single use voucher code and can only be used once. e-gift cards may be exchanged for goods the price of which being equal to or lower than the balance or value of the e-gift card. The e-gift card can be used as a complete or partial payment. If a purchase exceeds the redeemer's e-gift card value, the remaining amount must be paid with another method of payment. If you do not spend the entire balance on an e-gift card, the remaining balance will be lost.

e-gift card codes cannot be used in conjunction with other SilverGuard codes.

e-gift cards will be dispatched by email to the designated email account provided to us, as soon as is feasibly possible after receipt of cleared payment for the e-gift card.

SilverGuard shall not be liable or responsible for e-gift cards that are unable to be delivered due to user error (for example, typing errors, misspelt or incorrect email addresses), spam filters, firewalls or mailbox restrictions.

e-gift cards cannot be resold, transferred for value or exchanged for cash.

e-gift cards cannot be returned or refunded, except in accordance with your legal rights.

SilverGuard shall not be liable or responsible for lost, stolen, destroyed or damaged e-gift cards, or if the e-gift card is used without your permission. SilverGuard is unable to replace e-gift cards if lost or stolen.

By purchasing, using or accepting e-gift cards you confirm your acknowledgement and acceptance of these terms and conditions. SilverGuard reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions from time to time, without notice and to take appropriate action it deems such action necessary. This does not affect your legal rights. SilverGuard is the sole issuer and obligator to you.

How does a SilverGuard face mask compare to other face masks?

SilverGuard masks are not comparable to any face masks on the market. With three distinct layers, our masks are:

  • Antimicrobial: the IONIC+™ silver layer inhibits bacterial and virus growth – reducing 99.9% of pathogens on fabric within a four hour period
  • Anti odour and anti acne: the IONIC+™ silver layer also inhibits the growth of microbes that can cause acne or odour. This protection offers breathability and comfort for all-day wear
  • Enhanced barrier protection: an adjustable nose bridge provides a better fit
  • Fluid repellent: repels airborne liquids that may contain harmful microbes
  • Cost effective: our reusable masks are ten times cheaper than disposable masks
  • Environmentally friendly: our masks are reusable and can be washed over 100 times. They also contain no nanotechnology

Who can safely use a face covering?

Face coverings are not suitable for babies or children under 36 months or primary aged children who cannot use them without assistance, or those who may have problems breathing while wearing a face covering. Children should be supervised at all times when using a face mask or other face covering, and they are not recommended for infants who may struggle to breathe with a covering or even choke if they put parts in their mouth.

How environmentally friendly are face coverings?

SilverGuard believes that where possible, non medical face masks should not be for single use to help reduce the burden on the environment. According to some estimates, globally we are using 129 billion face masks and 65 billion plastic gloves every month. While some face masks are disposable, SilverGuard face masks are reusable, making them more environmentally friendly.

SilverGuard face masks and snoods are reusable, and washable over 100 times making them both cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

Can you see the silver?

In products such as our SilverGuard aprons, face coverings and medical textile products you can clearly see the silver thread with the naked eye.

Other SilverGuard products such as bed linen and towels contain the silver IONIC+ component buried inside the yarn. You may be able to see the silver extruded thread alongside the cotton with the naked eye. Our bed linen and towels look like traditional products.

  • Laundering: Face masks are washable at 40°C or 105°F. Do not bleach, do no use fabric softener as it causes a build-up of unnecessary chemicals and do not tumble dry. Wash dark colours separately. Drip dry, preferably in the sun.

Will face masks help prevent the spread of Human Coronavirus?

SilverGuard face masks are currently not certified medical devices. However, various studies have shown the efficacy of the IONIC+ silver layer in inhibiting bacterial and virus growth – reducing 99.9% of pathogens on fabric.

The evidence suggests that face masks can help protect each other and reduce the spread of the disease if someone is suffering from coronavirus, but not showing symptoms. The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that face coverings should be worn in public where social distancing is not possible to help stop the spread of Coronavirus. Many countries have made the wearing of face coverings and masks mandatory in certain conditions or they are highly recommended to be worn. In the UK for example, from the 24th July 2020 it has become mandatory to wear a face covering on all public transport and in shops, including supermarkets, indoor shopping centres, banks, building societies and post offices.

Face coverings are not a replacement for normal precautionary hygienic measures such as handwashing, not touching ones face, coughing or sneezing into a tissue or elbow and keeping a proper social distance from other people. Always ensure one’s hands are clean by practicing appropriate hand hygiene.

Please refer to current UK government guidelines on face coverings here.

Are the masks UK manufactured?

Towels

What is the environmental impact of organic cotton compared to conventional cotton?

It is widely known that organic farming is better for the environment than traditional methods in terms of water use, GHG emissions, use of synthetic pesticides and fertilise and the use of GMOs to name a few areas. Overall, organic cotton has a much lower environmental footprint than conventional cotton. And with natural methods employed to grow organic cotton, the soil and cotton crop are much healthier than conventionally grown cotton.

How is a SilverGuard towel different from a conventional towel?

The wet and humid environment in bathrooms provide the ideal conditions for bacteria and mould to flourish. SilverGuard self-sanitising towels offer antimicrobial protection which has been clinically proven to reduce 99% of bacteria. The anti-bacterial properties of the IONIC+ silver thread technology eliminates both acne and odour-causing bacteria meaning you benefit from cleaner, clearer and healthier skin as well as fresher smelling towels for longer.

What is the GSM of SilverGuard towels?

GSM refers to the fabric weight and density of a towel in grams-per-square-meter. A towel with a higher GSM measurement is thicker and plusher than one with a low GSM. This means it can absorb more water and is often made from a more luxurious type of cotton.

SilverGuard organic cotton towels are 600 GSM.

Are SilverGuard towels safe?

SilverGuard’s IONIC+ antimicrobial silver thread technology has been clinically proven to reduce 99% of bacteria and viruses. Our antimicrobial silver is just pure silver, which means it is not a topical coating, nor do we use nanotechnology. Our products are perfectly safe for your skin, children and pets.

How do I care for a SilverGuard towel?

Like traditional towels, before you use your SilverGuard towel product for the first time please wash it. This is important for two reasons; an initial wash washes away any loose fibres that were not removed during the manufacturing process and secondly, it also helps make your towel more absorbent by removing any residual softening treatments used in the manufacturing process.

SilverGuard towels, like traditional cotton towels, can be washed at temperatures of up to 40°C, and 60°C for white towels. White towels should be washed separately or with other white items to avoid subtle discolouration over time. Do not use fabric softeners. If tumble drying towels, use low heat to preserve your towels' softness. SilverGuard towels can be laundered over 100 times.

If you find a pulled thread on your towel, these can simply be trimmed off, as towels are woven and not knitted.

How often should you wash a SilverGuard towel?

It is generally recommended that you should wash your towels after every 3-5 uses, especially when hung to dry in a moist, dark place (like a bathroom). To extend the time between washes, avoid putting towels on top of each other and let them dry out completely after use.

SilverGuard towels are woven with IONIC+ silver thread which gives the product antimicrobial properties, acting against bacteria. Why is this important? Your towel can be a hosts to numerous bacteria, fungi, bodily secretions, along with dead skin cells. These microbes are continually multiplying, particularly if they are hung to dry in a moist, dark place like some bathrooms. The IONIC+ silver thread technology works to prevent the growth of bacteria, making your bathroom environment a safer and cleaner place in between laundering and cleaning.

What colours and sizes do SilverGuard towels come in?

Our towels are made from 600 gsm woven organic cotton and IONIC+ silver, and come in four sizes:

  • Face Cloth: 32 x 32 cm
  • Hand Towel: 50 x 90 cm
  • Bath Towel: 70 x 130 cm
  • Baby Towel: 76 x 76 cm

At present, our towel range comes in one colour – white. We are looking to add more colours to the range soon, as well as introducing other towel products such as bath sheets.

What testing and certification do SilverGuard towels have?

Our towel products have undergone various testing and certification:

  • Antimicrobial: SilverGuard’s IONIC+ antimicrobial silver thread technology has been clinically proven to reduce 99% of bacteria and viruses.
  • GOTS certification: our towel products are made from organic cotton and carry the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) standard. This means it has met stringent requirements for both environmental and human safety throughout the supply chain
  • Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification: our towel products have also received the Standard 100 Oeko-Tex certification, which certifies that it supports human ecology through biocompatibility and absence of harmful substances (such as dyes and chemicals) in the manufacturing process

Bed Linen

How is SilverGuard bed linen different from conventional bed linen?

Our bed linen is made using a blend of Supima® and IONIC+ silver thread. The IONIC+ silver thread is weaved through the Supima® cotton which prevents the growth of bacteria, fungi and other pathogens.

Why is this important? Your body can shed on average around 15 million skin cells in one night, while it has also been estimated that a person naturally produced over 95 litres of sweat in bed every year. This means that your bed linens can become a breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria. The IONIC+ silver thread technology works to prevent the growth of bacteria, making your bed environment a safer and cleaner place in between laundering.

The same technology also acts to be kind on your skin. Your bed linen comes into contact with your skin for around eight hours a day. Studies have found unwashed pillowcases and sheets had several thousand times more bacteria than a toilet seat. As such, traditional fabrics collect bacteria, only to transfer back onto your skin causing acne-prone skin to break out. SilverGuard bed linens allow for healthier skin by tackling acne, redness, and skin irritations as the silver thread technology eliminate acne-causing bacteria working to reduce breakouts on the skin.

Is SilverGuard bed linen safe?

SilverGuard’s IONIC+ antimicrobial silver thread technology has been clinically proven to reduce 99% of bacteria and viruses. Our antimicrobial silver is just pure silver, which means it is not a topical coating, nor do we use nanotechnology. Our products are perfectly safe for your skin, children and pets.

What is the thread count of SilverGuard bed linen?

Thread count measures the number of horizontal threads and vertical threads in a square inch of cotton. All SilverGuard bed linen is single-ply and has a thread count of 300.

Higher thread counts have been associated with higher quality but this is not always the case. Wrapping a thread around itself to create a multi-ply yarn can give bedding fabric a thread count of 600 or more. However, a single-ply fabric, such as SilverGuard’s, can create softer, longer lasting and more breathable cotton bed sheets compared to multi-ply threads. Generally, 200 thread count sheets or more are used to make luxury bedding. Other factors such as the quality of the cotton and weave used in the fabric have a greater influence on the resultant quality.

How do I care for SilverGuard bed linen?

SilverGuard bed linen, like traditional bed linen, can be washed at temperatures of up to 40°C, and 60°C for white bedding. White bedding should be washed separately or with other white items to avoid subtle discolouration over time. Avoid the use of fabric softeners and bleach. If tumble drying bed linen, use low heat to preserve your bed linens’ softness. SilverGuard bed linen can be laundered over 100 times.

All our bedding products are made using soft, dense and absorbent Supima® cotton for its premium quality and plush feel. The longer yarn length of Supima cotton ensures smoother surfaces that make for softer fabrics which are also resistant to pilling. Although Supima® is a luxurious type of bed linen, you can still wash normally and use them without worry. The bedding will continue to maintain its soft feel after repeated washing.

How often should I wash SilverGuard bed linen?

It is generally recommended that you should wash your bed linen weekly. SilverGuard towels are woven with IONIC+ silver thread which gives the product antimicrobial properties, acting against bacteria. SilverGuard IONIC+ silver thread technology also eliminates odour-producing bacteria which means you can enjoy fresher smelling sheets for longer.

What colours and sizes does SilverGuard bed linen come in?

The range comes in white and includes fitted and flat sheets, duvet covers, pillowcases and cot sheets to fit beds in the following sizes: single, double, King and Super King.

Our fitted sheets have been made to fit even the deepest mattresses up to 36cm deep and with a wider elastic delivering extra grip so the sheets stay put. This also means a snug fit for shallower mattresses.

Is SilverGuard bed linen good for keeping cool in the Summer?

Cotton and linen bedding is recommended for keeping cool and fresh in hot weather. Cotton is soft, lightweight and breathable.

With SilverGuard bed linen being single-ply Supima®, this means that airflow and breathability is maintained throughout the fabric. This is further enhanced by the thermoregulating silver in our bed linen products which allows for sleep at the ideal temperature, every night, all year round. This is especially beneficial to anyone who tends to sweat at night or wake up continuously from becoming too warm.

What testing and certification does SilverGuard bed linen have?

SilverGuard’s IONIC+ antimicrobial silver thread technology has been clinically proven to reduce 99% of bacteria and viruses.

Our bed linen products are made from Supima® cotton and have also received Standard 100 Oeko-Tex certification, which certifies that it supports human ecology through biocompatibility and absence of harmful substances in the manufacturing process.

Filters

What is an IONIC+ air filter?
